Getting to Know DocLink – Dan Drvaric

As part of our Getting to Know DocLink Blog series, we decided to highlight one of the newest team members of our growing sales team. Please help us welcome Dan Drvaric, DocLink Sales Director! Based out of Brookfield, Wisconsin, Dan is focused on assisting prospects in identifying where their value proposition with DocLink lies and building fruitful relationships with prospects, partners and customers.

What did you do before landing at DocLink by Beyond Limits?

I’ve spent most of my career working in the software industry – 36 years to be exact! For the last 12 years, I’ve worked as the Director of Implementation and Support for a software development company where I initially started as a Regional Business Manager selling modular, ERP software. Prior to that, I was in sales for several entities in the software world. Being in both sales and implementation positions has been exciting and seeing the changes in technology has kept it interesting.

What made you want to go into sales?

When I graduated from college in 1981, the United States was coming out of a bad recession, and my first job out of school was a sales training position for a company in Milwaukee that manufactured loading dock equipment. At this time, I wasn’t crazy about sales, so I got out of this position after 15 months and got into an administrative role where I started to work with personal computers, which ultimately drove me back into sales. Soon after I landed a job selling personal computers and software, and the rest is history! I have always enjoyed meeting new people, learning about different businesses and overcoming the challenges in the sales process. Sales satisfies my need for continuous learning and my desire to build lasting relationships.

What attracted you to DocLink by Beyond Limits?

I’ve spent the past 12 years in implementation and support and, while I loved it, I missed sales. I’ve known Don Howren, CEO of DocLink by Beyond Limits, since we worked together at a different software company, and Lisa McPartland since I first met the company 34 years ago, and I just wanted to get back into this world of sales. Also, over the years, I’ve become interested in document management software, so when I saw that the sales director opportunity was open, I reached out to Don, which started the ball rolling.

What do you like most about your career?

I have been fortunate to have some great customers over the years. Even today, some of my early customers are good friends.  I also really enjoy the problem-solving aspect of my career.  Whether a company requires only accounting modules or a full-blown manufacturing system, I’ve enjoyed getting to know their unique requirements.  I’ve had lots of fun and learned many interesting things by walking shop floors, seeing how products are made, and going through the implementations with customers.

What are your responsibilities at DocLink by Beyond Limits?

To sell a lot of DocLink software!

What do you like best about the company?

The people! Everyone here is very friendly and helpful.  The company culture is very positive and supportive.  I am very impressed with the marketing department and the business development team, and all their activities to generate leads for the sales team. It’s something I have never seen before, and I’m grateful for all the work they do.

What’s the most interesting customer interaction you’ve had so far?

The most interesting prospect interactions I’ve had so far are those that teach me where the value proposition with DocLink lies. For example, I’ve talked with prospects who wanted to start managing sales orders and processing more efficiently. Others want help retrieving invoices so that they can fulfill auditor requests faster. I find all conversations where I learned about customer requirements and how DocLink can address those requirements the most interesting and enjoyable.

What do you like to do outside of work?

First and foremost, I love spending time with my family. Father’s Day weekend, my wife and I had all the kids and their families to our house to swim and have fun being together. That’s when we took the picture above.  You can see it was a great day. The other area where I’ve spent a lot of time is umpiring. I’ve served as a youth baseball umpire for 18 years and 13 years as a tennis umpire. I spent years on the sidelines cheering on my kids in these sports and learned so much that I now get to continue working with many great coaches, parents and kids. I am amazed by what I have accomplished as an umpire and where it has taken me.  I have worked at local tournaments and collegiate national championships. It’s a big thing for me, and I really enjoy it!

If you could live anywhere else, where would it be?

That’s an easy one! Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. My wife and I went there on our honeymoon and then returned after 25 years, fell in love with it, and have been going back ever since. We enjoy all there is to do on the island, especially riding our bikes and going to the beach. It’s also a nice compromise, the weather is much nicer than it is in Wisconsin, but it’s not as blazing hot and humid as in Florida. We’ve also made friends as we vacationed there throughout the years. It’s just a beautiful place.

What 3 words or phrases would you use to describe yourself?

  1. Family man – think Steve Martin from the Father of the Bride (that’s the way my family describes me)
  2. Passionate
  3. Optimistic

What is your favorite food to eat?

I always joke that the four basic food groups are pizza, popcorn, hot fudge sundaes, and Rice Krispies Treats, but then after these four foods, basically, it’s anything my wife makes. My wife is a phenomenal cook. It’s hard to have a favorite food – she makes great spaghetti, lasagna, roast beef, and turkey – whatever she prepares is the best!

What’s the top 3 most used apps on your phone?

I don’t do much on my phone, but I would say my top three are:

  1. Weather
  2. News
  3. Safari (mainly to play Wordle)

What’s the last show you binge watched?

I don’t watch much TV, but when I do, I like to watch baseball or basketball on the weekdays, and golf, tennis or football on the weekends. However, I usually don’t sit down to watch the whole game. I will catch parts of it while I am doing other things.
