The Hard Facts on Paper

We know that going paperless saves money, time, and trees. To better understand how much you can save, first think about the amount of paper you’re using now, and check out the graphic above with some quick facts on paper usage in the United States.

Keep in mind that one tree, 6″ to 8″ in diameter, makes 8,333 sheets of copy paper. As you can see, the United States uses 4 million tons of office paper each year (more than enough paper to build a 10-foot-high wall covering the distance from New York to Tokyo)!

If you are considering adopting an integrated document management system, take a good look at the many ways paper is being used in your office(s). Are documents printed just to be filed away in a cabinet? Are invoices printed out solely to be signed by a coworker? With a document management solution in place, you can instead store files in an electronic repository. You can sign an invoice electronically, then easily route it to the next person.
